Chowan University’s Psychology Department provided a well rounded education as a foundation for my clinical experience. The professors all came from different backgrounds which made the experience at Chowan even better. I am grateful that I was able to graduate from Chowan and continue my work in the mental health field.

Welcome to the Department of Psychology at Chowan University! As one of the largest majors at Chowan University, we offer a B.S. in Psychology, B.S. in Psychology with an Applied Psychology Concentration, A.A. in Psychology, and a minor in psychology. Psychology majors and minors are able to tailor their psychology electives to their career interests. We offer a wide range of courses, including many applied topics, to prepare students to enter fields such as mental health counseling, social work, applied behavioral analysis, and more. In addition, students may gain real-world research experience by completing a Psychology Research Internship under the supervision of a faculty member. In addition to providing a foundation in psychology, we focus on the development of marketable skills for students pursuing a variety of career paths.

Our supportive faculty come from diverse backgrounds and genuinely enjoy teaching. Students receive individualized attention academically as well as in preparation for careers and/or graduate school. Many of our graduates are employed as behavioral specialists and mentors in schools, case managers in social services and prisons, rehabilitation counselors in therapeutic homes, and drug and alcohol treatment providers. A number of our graduates have continued their education in graduate programs. I encourage you to follow our department on Facebook or Instagram for more information regarding events and updates from our graduates. Please feel free to contact me for more information.
