Office of Academic Success

Confused about changing your major? Stressed out by your workload? It doesn’t matter if your question is about academics or social concerns; if it’s a big issue or a small matter, the Academic Success Office is always here to listen and care for you.

The Academic Success Office operates from a philosophy that holds all community members as vital and integral to the whole. Our purpose is to help all students succeed to graduation. The Academic Success Office works to empower students through support and encouragement as intellectual members of Chowan University. 

The Academic Success Office seeks to:

  • Help students transition between home and university.
  • Promote student success by providing educational support and guidance.
  • Encourage freshmen success by providing mentoring services.
  • Challenge and support students academically, socially, and spiritually.
  • Increase retention-to-graduation with early intervention and life-skills strategies.
  • Review administrative processes (academic appeals and financial aid).

Programming

The Academic Success Office utilizes a web-based early alert system entitled Watermark. This program provides the central framework for monitoring student progress. The faculty report class attendance and enter reports into Watermark for excessive absences, missing assignments, inattention, praises, and more. Members of the the team contact students by phone or email for resolution.

The program is designed to lead students toward self-authorship in college and empowering students as they assimilate to university culture, learn life success skills, and become involved in life of the Chowan University community. The Academic Success Office utilizes an interactive process which encourages and challenges students to create academic and professional goals. Students are selected and invited to participate in the mentoring program.
