Briley-Weaver Piano Dedication Service led by Maja Rajković and Dennis Krasnokutsy
On Sunday, November 6th, 2023, the Chowan University community gathered in the Chowan Chapel to witness the dedication of the Briley-Weaver Steinway piano. The grand event featured a captivating concert by renowned pianist Maja Rajkoviċ, accompanied by the talented Dennis Krasnokutsy on the viola.
The Briley-Weaver Steinway piano, a magnificent instrument of unparalleled beauty and craftsmanship from Hopper Piano and Organ Company in Raleigh, arrived at the chapel just days before its grand opening in September. Since then, it has become a cherished focal point of the sanctuary, enhancing the spiritual ambiance and enriching the musical experience for all who enter. Linda, along with friends of Chowan Jane Newsome, James Moore, John Tayloe and Keith Pendergraft, had traveled to the Steinway factory in New York to ensure that the piano for the chapel would encapsulate the modern setting of the sanctuary with timeless beauty. Chowan University’s own Dr. Mary Hellmann led the selection process at the Steinway showroom.
The audience was treated to an awe-inspiring performance by Maja Rajkoviċ, a world-renowned pianist known for her virtuosity and emotive interpretations. Her captivating melodies, skillfully accompanied by Dennis Krasnokutsy’s soulful viola, resonated throughout the chapel, leaving the audience spellbound. They presented a program, Spiritual Images, to highlight the beauty of this instrument, and to reflect on its place in this Chapel and the role that God plays in our lives.
