Mar 10, 2023 by Staff Reports

On March 9, 2023, Chowan University and Weldon City Schools leaders signed a partnership agreement that offers a framework for sharing resources to increase quality education and allow greater access to Chowan’s teacher education graduates.

Dr. Dannie Williams, Superintendent of Weldon City Schools, signed the agreement for Weldon City Schools, and Mr. John Tayloe, Special Assistant to the President and Executive Director of Major Gifts and Planned Giving, represented Chowan University.  Also present were Ms. Donita Privott, Executive Director of Human Resources for Weldon City Schools, Dr. Mitch Henke, Director of Ancillary Services, and Dr. Ella Benson, Dean of Accessibility Services and Professor of Education.

Discussions preceding the signing centered around the many opportunities for students at Chowan University.  Dr. Williams shared that he would like to bring students from Weldon High School and Roanoke Valley Early College to visit Chowan University.  Mr. Tayloe shared that there are many special programs for students, including the Honors College and the Chowan Fellows program.

Chowan University continues to build a network of partnerships to make an educational impact on our region.  For more information on partnership agreements, please contact Dr. Ella Benson, Dean of Accessibility Services and Professor of Education, at bensoe@chowan.edu.
