
Chowan University Announces 2023 Promotion and Tenure

On Thursday, April 20, 2023, the Chowan University Board of Trustees gathered for its annual spring meeting and voted on tenure and promotion. Tenure is defined as a permanence of position and is a multifaceted process that may take years for professors to achieve, if achieved at all. Requirements for tenure include but are not limited to, excelling in the scholarship of teaching, application, integration, and discovery and serving the institution and community.
Kyung-Hoon Lee, Associate Professor of Chemistry, was granted tenure. Dr. Lee earned his PhD in Bioorganic Chemistry from the University of Kansas at Lawrence. He teaches General Chemistry I & II and Organic Chemistry I & II, as well as Computational Biology.

David Ballew was promoted to Professor of History. Dr. Ballew earned his PhD in History at the University of Mississippi. He teaches an array of history courses and serving as the Coordinator for Chowan Tutoring.
