Senior Jaylon Boyd Encourages Peers at Chowan Chapel Service
On Wednesday, Oct 19, Jaylon Boyd ’23 was the guest proclaimer at the Chowan University Chapel Service. Boyd is a running back and team chaplain for the Chowan Hawks Football Team. Boyd is a leader in Campus Ministry serving in the Praise Band and Team 4:13. Because of his Christian leadership and call to the ministry, he was recently awarded a Chowan Christian Service Association (CCSA) Scholarship. A business major originally from Columbia, SC, Boyd now calls Rocky Mount home where he serves his church True Vine Holiness Church of Jesus Christ of the Apostles’ Faith, Inc as a deacon.
Boyd warmly encouraged the chapel participants to be faithful to Christ. In his message, he cited several scripture texts for inspiration, including Matthew 5:13-14, encouraging students to be “salt and light.” He continued by sharing Matthew 11:28-30, reminding listeners that following Christ is not a burden because Jesus’ “yoke is easy.” Later in his remarks, Boyd shared Psalm 40 and expressed gratitude for God’s deliverance “out of the miry clay.” He concluded his time by inviting participants to share their testimonies with others.
Minister to the University, Rev. Mari Wiles was delighted that Boyd accepted her invitation to preach in the Chapel. She shared, “Jaylon Boyd lives his testimony of God’s grace and forgiveness on the Football field, in the classroom, and around campus. He is a light and gift as he serves with us.”
