Chowan Celebrates 2020-2021 Tenures and Promotions
On Thursday, April 8, 2021, the Chowan University Board of Trustees gathered for its annual spring meeting and voted on tenure, promotions, and granting emeritus status to distinguished faculty and staff members. Tenure is defined as a permanence of position and is a multifaceted process that may take years for professors to achieve if achieved at all. Requirements for tenure include, but are not limited to, excelling in the scholarship of teaching, application, integration, and discovery and serving the institution and community.
Faculty members promoted to professor are Mitchell Henke, Graphic Communications and Jennifer Place, Psychology. Additionally, the following faculty members were granted tenure and promoted to associate professor: Christopher Cook, Music; PamelaWoodard, Criminal Justice; Teresa Santis, Education; Robbin Buller, Art. In addition, Heather McGuire was promoted to Distinguished Professor of Biology and Susan Alston, retired Blackboard Administrator, was granted Staff Emeritus status.
In addition to recent Board actions, President Dr. Kirk Peterson made several appointments. Professor Georgia Williams was appointed as a Faculty Marshal. Dr. David Ballew was appointed as Chief Faculty Marshal for the 2020-2021 Academic Year. And Professor Jennifer Newton was appointed as the Chair of the Department of Communication Arts.
