Mustache March Strikes Again With Chowan Baseball
To help raise funds for non-profit organizations around our state, the Chowan Baseball program will be holding their 2nd annual Mustache March Fundraiser.
The baseball program is seeking sponsors to pledge $1 for each day that a player they choose wears a Mustache in March. Coaches are also in on the fun, but at $2 per day. Last year's fundraiser recorded 47 sponsors, and the team hopes to double that number this season.
This year's "Mustache March Fundraiser" will go to the Hertford County Chapter of "Communities in Schools". Communities In Schools work directly inside schools, building relationships that empower students to succeed inside and outside the classroom. For more information go to their website.
"I was first introduced to 'Communities in School' a few years ago when some of our Chowan faculty were active in the program. We chose this program this year because we have the opportunity to make an impact locally," said Taylor Furlough.
"The program helps remove some of the outside issues, social and economic, that affect many of our local grade school students, and gets in the way of their early education. They enter the classroom more prepared to learn. Our donation this year will be made to honor educators; both of my parents are retired teachers, and Coach Hill's mother and wife are both active educators."
If you are interested in becoming a mustache sponsor for a player, you can reach Coach Furlough via email (Furlot@chowan.edu), or on his office phone (252) 398-6479. Mustaches will begin March 1st, to follow the fun check out Chowan Baseball on Twitter (@ChowanBaseball), pictures will be posted with different players throughout the month to check in on the progress.
Additionally, visit the concessions stand during any home series in March to make a donation towards the "Mustache March" fundraiser.
