Chowan University to Host SeniorFEST 2019
Chowan University will host SeniorFEST, a senior adult event, on March 26, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Chowan hosts SeniorFEST each spring on the historic campus, highlighting healthy lifestyles, Christian living, and shedding light on issues facing senior-adults today. With special guest speakers, informative breakout sessions, live entertainment, a classic southern buffet, and door prizes, SeniorFEST offers a day of fellowship and fun for individuals and groups.
This year, SeniorFEST will feature special guest speaker Tom Key, a faith-based performance artist nationally celebrated for creating, starring in, and co-authoring the musical hit, Cotton Patch Gospel. Key was described by the Atlanta newspaper, Creative Loafing, as “An actor with such energy that even standing still, he seems to quiver like a divining rod.” In his session, “The Art of Acting, the Art of Being You,” Key will guide, inspire, perform, and invites attendees into ancient fundamentals of the performance craft; the same sacred practices that create a life that is awake, intentional, and loving.
Breakout sessions will cover topics related to genealogy, fall prevention, brain health, Medicare basics and changes, cross-generational serving, and planned giving lessons from Aunt Bertha. Breakout sessions will take place between 11:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m., offering an array of options to appeal to all interests. Following the breakout sessions lunch will be served in Thomas Dining Hall along with afternoon entertainment Keepers of the Faith, a local Gospel ensemble.
