Dr. Robert Canoy to headline the Chowan University Taylor Religious Heritage Lecture
Dr. Robert Canoy will headline the Chowan University Taylor Religious Heritage Lecture on Monday, September 24, and Wednesday, September 26, at 11:00 AM in Turner Auditorium on the Chowan University campus.
Dr. Canoy received the Ph.D. and Master of Divinity from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He completed his bachelor's degree at Mississippi College. Dr. Canoy is the Dean and Professor of Christian theology at The School of Divinity, Gardner-Webb University. His academic interests reach across Christian theology, historical theology, and Greek and New Testament studies. Dr. Canoy teaches courses and leads Bible studies in each of these academic areas and introduces students to Israel and Palestine and other biblical lands.
Most recently, Dr. Canoy published Atonement in the Apocalypse: An Expose of the Defeat of Evil (Summer 2017) and while on sabbatical in Jerusalem wrote: "Armageddon: Revisiting Megiddo" (Review and Expositor, Summer 2018). He regularly leads study tours to Israel, Egypt, Greece, and Turkey. His primary areas of research include New Testament theology, eschatology, and Eucharistic theology.
Dr. Canoy has a background immersed in the local church. He held positions as pastor and guest teacher in many churches in North Carolina, Maryland, Iowa, and Missouri. Dr. Canoy is originally from Mississippi. He and his wife Cynthia Deniese Canoy have two children.
Dr. and Mrs. Hargus Taylor and Chowan University established this endowed lecture series in 1994. The Taylor Religious Heritage Lectures bring leaders of diverse expertise and rich experience to campus. The event is free to the public.
