TWO HAWKS EARN CIAA FOOTBALL HONORS IN WEEK ONE
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced on Tuesday afternoon CIAA Football Players and Coach of the Week for Week One of the 2017 season.
Chowan grabbed two honors for Week One after Senior defensive lineman Nate Wyche and Freshman Quarterback Bryce Witt grabbed honors.
Nate Wyche earned Defensive Lineman of the Week honors after leading the Hawks in tackles with a game-high 15 tackles and 3.5 sacks. Wyche disrupted the Broncos backfield all night with nine yards lost on those sacks including four tackles for a loss for 11 yards. Wyche was named to the Preseason All-CIAA squad and has been selected for Player of the Week honors for the third time in his career.
Bryce Witt earned CIAA Rookie of the Week for his outstanding play under center. The true Freshman threw for 257 yards and three scores on his way to 17-28 (60.7%) passing. Witt connected with three different receivers on the touchdown passes. This is the first CIAA Player of the Week honors for Witt.
