Three Programs Garner CIAA Team Academic Awards
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) continues to demonstrate its focus on the importance of success both academically and athletically with its Team Academic Awards. The CIAA announces the 2016-17 highest cumulative team grade point average recipients.
Chowan garnered three CIAA Team Academic Awards this season. The Volleyball team earned the Team Award with a 3.451 GPA in the fall season, while Softball and Women's Tennis was awarded in the spring with GPAs of 3.374 and 3.545 respectively. The Tennis team posted the highest team GPA this season with Livingstone's Men's Golf in close second with a 3.532.
"I am extremely proud of our CIAA student-athletes on their commitment to academics," said Commissioner Jacqie McWilliams. "These achievements not only remind us of the importance of balancing athletics and academics, it displays success toward the CIAA and NCAA Division II missions in developing and preparing student-athletes for graduation and the next chapter beyond their collegiate experience."
