CU Women’s Tennis Garners All-CIAA Honors
BOWIE, MD- The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) in conjunction with the Women's Tennis Coaches Association and Sports Information Directors Association announced the Player of the Year and All-CIAA Women's Tennis Team on Thursday.
Chowan University's Polina Novachuk earned the CIAA Player of the Year. The Krashoyarsk, Russia native has compiled a 21-4 record in number one singles play along with a 12-0 mark against league opponents. Novachuk stands 11-7 in the number one doubles with teammate Victoria Smolchenkova.
Novachuk , Smolchenkova along with Cynthia Carrier, Angelique Gouin and Anna Makhneva earned All-CIAA honors . Smolchenkova, hailing from Kaluga, Russia, stands 16-7 in number two singles competition highlighted by a 11-0 conference record. Carrier, a sophomore Levis, Quebec native, posted an 18-6 overall record in number three singles play while contributing to a 12-7 overall record in number two doubles play with Gouin. Gouin compiled a perfect 13-0 record in CIAA singles competition and notched a 10-0 mark in league play in doubles competition. Makhneva has an 11-7 overall record and a 6-0 CIAA record.
