Hawks Advance to CIAA Semifinals with Win over Fayetteville State

BOWIE, MD- The Chowan University women's tennis team secured a spot in the CIAA Women's Tennis Championship semifinal with a 5-0 win over Fayetteville State University. The Hawks advance with a 19-8 overall record and will square off against Winston- Salem State University on Friday, April 21st at 8:30am.  

In doubles play, Polina Novachuk and Victoria Smolchenkova picked up a 8-0 win over Staisha Cain and Selena Cox at the number one match. Cynthia Carrier and Angelique Gouin blanked their opponents 8-0 in number two doubles play while Anna Makhneva and Roxana Daneshjoo picked up a win by forfeit from the Lady Broncos in the number three doubles.

In singles completion, Gouin recorded a 6-0, 6-0 win in the number four position against Clark while, Franca Pacelli tallied a win by forfeit in number singles play to secure the 5-0 win for the Hawks.

Friday's semifinal round will have an adjusted schedule as the four teams look to avoid inclement weather. The #1 Chowan Hawks will open the day facing the #4 Winston-Salem State Rams in an 8:30 a.m. match, followed by the #2 Shaw Lady Bears taking on the #3 Virginia State Lady Trojans.
