Chowan Baseball: Trio of Haawks Earn Weekly CIAA Baseball Honors
CHARLOTTE, NC – A trio of Hawks have earned weekly CIAA Baseball honors after a banner weekend against Lincoln University. Head Coach Taylor Furlough has garnered CIAA Coach of the Week honors while players Aaron Flanagan and Cody Smith earned CIAA Offensive Player of the Week and CIAA Pitcher of the Week respectively.
Furlough ran the team's CIAA record to 10-3 after sweeping Lincoln in a four-game series over the weekend. His squad out scored the Lions 65-15 over four games. Furlough and the Hawks currently stand at 20-19 on the year and 10-3 in CIAA play.
Flanagan tallied nine hits in 10 at-bats for the Hawks in a four-game sweep of Lincoln over the weekend. He drove in six runs, tallied three doubles, and a grand slam in those 10 at-bats. He also scored seven runs and was 3-3 in stolen bases, including stealing home in game four of the series.
Smith was named CIAA Pitcher of the Week after a throwing a three-hit, shut out to open the series. He picked up his third straight win in as many appearances and his second straight shut out. He struck out five Lincoln batters. Smith has yet to give up an earned run in 21.1 innings pitched since returning to the line up in late March.
