Hawks Earn 9-0 Win Over Trojans
MURFREESBORO, NC- The Chowan University men's tennis team grabbed a 9-0 win over Virginia State University at the Rose Family Tennis Complex on Tuesday afternoon. The Hawks move to a 13-7 overall while the Trojans slipped to 8-6 on the season with the setback.
In doubles competition, Farid Hajizada and Adi Kaliakperov opened the match with an 8-4 win over Sultan Kenes and Jonathan Fuchs. Mateusz Izycki and Mariano Yeh teamed up for an 8-4 win over Alexzander Walker and Marcus Smith in the number two doubles position before, Rafael Goncalves and Enrique Barge beat Blaine Davies and Keon Halley 8-1 in number three doubles action.
Heading into singles play, Chowan picked up a win at all six positions. In the number one singles match, Kaliakperov defeated Kenes 6-4, 6-3, while Smith fell to Hajizada in the number two singles 6-0, 6-1. Izycki picked up the number three singles play 6-2, 6-2 over Fuchs, while Goncalves beat Davies 6-3, 6-1 in the number four singles position. At the fifth singles match, Yeh won a clean 6-0, 6-0 over Walker while, Barge secured the sixth singles victory over Halley 6-3, 6-1 for Chowan.
The Hawks are back in action on April 13th when they travel to Richmond, Virginia for a conference match up against Virginia Union University.
