CU Women’s Tennis Blanks Lady Trojans 9-0
MURFREESBORO, NC -The Chowan University women's tennis team took a 9-0 victory on Tuesday afternoon over Virginia State University in CIAA play. The Hawks advance to 16-8 on the season and 12-0 against conference opponents. The Lady Trojans fell to 14-3 overall and 10-3 in the league.
Polina Novachuk and Victoria Smolchenkova teamed up for a 8-3 victory over Shelia James and Sydney Yao at the number one doubles position. Cynthia Carrier and Angelique Gouin beat Tamisha Richardson and Christina Washington 8-1 in the number two doubles match, while Felicia Tucker and Charde Washington were defeated 8-3 by Chowan duo Natalia Andrade and Franca Pacelli in the number three doubles.
Heading into singles with a 3-0 lead, Chowan's Novachuk grabbed a 6-3, 6-4 win in the number one singles match over James. Smolchenkova won the number two singles 6-4, 6-4 over Yao. The Lady Trojans fell in the number three singles play 6-2, 6-1, with Richardson to Carrier, while C. Washington dropped the number four position for Virginia State 6-2, 6-0, to Gouin. The Hawks picked up the number five singles 6-2, 6-0, Daneshjoo over Tucker, before senior Andrade defeated Katlyn Kearney 6-1, 6-0 for Chowan in the sixth singles position.
The Hawks head to Richmond, Virginia on April 13th to take on Virginia Union University in conference play. First serve is set for 1:00pm.
