CU Men’s Tennis Outlast Golden Bulls in CIAA Play
SALISBURY, NC- The Chowan University men's tennis team grabbed a 9-0 win over Johnson C. Smith University in their first conference match of the season at the CIAA Round Up on Friday evening. The Hawks move to 6-5 on the year and 1-0 in the CIAA, while the Golden Bulls slipped to 0-6 on the season, with 0-1 record in the league.
At the number one doubles position, Farid Hajizada and Adi Kaliakperov beat Marlowe Anderson and Tarick Miller 8-1, while Bradley Girgorio and Anthony Jefferson fell to Mateusz Izycki and Mariano Yeh 8-1 in the number two doubles match. The Hawks secured the number three doubles when Rafael Goncalves and Louis Proulx beat Gerald Miller and Robert Andrews 8-4. Chowan lead the Golden Bulls 3-0 heading into singles competition.
Kaliakperov picked up the number one singles match 6-2, 6-0 for Chowan over M. Anderson, while Hajizada won the number two singles play over T. Miller 6-1, 6-1. Johnson C. Smith's R. Anderson fell to Izycki 6-1, 6-0 in the third singles position, before Goncalves beat Girgorio in the number four singles. Yeh earned the fifth singles victory 6-0, 6-2 over G. Miller, while Proulx beat Eric Lopez 6-1, 6-0 to secure the 9-0 win for Chowan.
