SALISBURY, NC-The Chowan University women's tennis team earned a 9-0 win over Livingstone College in their first conference match of the season at the CIAA Round Up on Friday evening. The Hawks advance to an overall 5-6 record and 1-0 record 0 in conference play. With the setback, the Lady Blue Bears dropped to 0-5 overall on the season, with a 0-1 record in the league.

Chowan swept Livingstone in doubles and singles play during the match. At number one doubles Polina Novachuk and Victoria Smolchenkova defeated Hadiyah Shaheer and Tiffani Holland 8-0, while Cynthia Carrier and Angelique Gouin beat Mariah Williams and Nanayakkara Crishanthi 8-0 in the number two doubles play. Roxana Daneshjoo and Anna Makhneva picked up the victory in the third doubles match by a forfeit from the Lady Blue Bears.

In the number one singles match, Gouin defeated Shaheer 6-0, 6-0, while Holland fell to Makhneva in the number two singles 6-0, 6-0. Daneshjoo picked up the number three singles play 6-0, 6-0 over Williams, while Franca Pacelli beat Crishanthi 6-0, 6-0 in the number four singles position. At the fifth singles match, Natalia Andrade won 6-0, 6-0 over Samson. Carrier grabbed the number six singles by a forfeit from the Lady Blue Bears.
