Hawks Rebound for Road Win over Benedict College
Box Score ELIZABETH CITY, NC – The Chowan University women's basketball team overcame a sluggish first half to pick up their fourth straight win over Benedict College on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks won with a final score of 77-69 to move to 4-0 on the year. Jordan Payne helped to propel her team to victory by notching her fourth straight double-double of the young season. Payne netted 21 points and grabbed 10 boards in the win.
The Hawks trailed Benedict in both quarters of the first half. The Tigers shot 42% fom the floor in the first while the Hawks hit just 24% of their first half shots. Trailing 41-29 at halftime, the Hawks clawed their way back into the game in the third quarter. The Hawks drilled away at the Tiger lead to take a 56-52 lead at the end of the third quarter. Eleven different Hawks scored, contributing to the 77-69 win. Chowan outscored the Tigers 48-28 in the second half.
Payne scored 21 points followed by teammate Courtni Williams who finished up with 16 points, four assists, and four steals. Joining Payne and Williams in double figures was Chantel Roberts who chipped in 10 points and seven boards.
The Hawks ended the game hitting 33% (26-80) from the floor. For Benedict, Destiny Betts led all scorers with 22 points and seven boards. Mikeisha Moore added 18 points for the Tigers and Zairra Harris scored 11 points and had eight rebounds.
The Hawks will hit the floor again on November 25th when they travel to Elizabeth City again to participate in the ECSU Challenge. They will face off against Fayetteville State University at 5:00pm that day.
