Chase and Zavala Garner CIAA All-Tournament Honors

PETERSBURG, VA- The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) in conjunction with the CIAA Volleyball Championship Committee announced the 2016 All-Tournament Team on Sunday afternoon.  Chowan University's Suraya Chase and Bailey Zavala earned CIAA All-Tournament accolades. 

Chase, a native of Arouca, Trinidad and Tobago, recorded 27 kills and 26 digs over the course of two matches at this weekend's CIAA Championship.  Chase, the CIAA Player of the Year, recorded a league-high 285 kills on the year along with 281 digs and 40 blocks (nine solo, 31 assisted). 

Zavala, a member of the All-CIAA Team, earned the All-Tournament nod after hauling in 63 digs.  Her top performance included a 42-dig outing in Chowan's 3-1 loss to Fayetteville State University.  The Las Vegas, Nevada native recorded 632 digs this season. 

The Hawks ended the 2016 campaign with a 22-10 overall record.  Chowan captured their third straight CIAA Northern Division title this season and advanced to the CIAA Semifinal match.
