Hawks in Third Place After First Round at NCWC Don Scalf Invitational
ROCKY MOUNT, NC – The Chowan University men's golf team competed in the first round of the NCWC Don Scalf Invitational on Monday afternoon. The Hawks completed the first day of play with a team score of 312 and stand in third place out of the six teams competing in the tournament.
The host team, NC Wesleyan College stands in first place after the opening round with a team score of 295. Mariano Silvestri shot a 70 on the afternoon pacing the Lions and finishing in first place overall for the day, with two other NC Wesleyan players finishing in the top five.
Billy Britton led the way for the Hawks after carding a 75 in the first round and finishing in a three-way tie for fifth overall in the 37 player field. Jordan Francis shot a 76 on the afternoon followed by Steven Rhinard who finished with a score of 78 in the opening round. Francis is in a four-way tie for 8th place overall and Rhinard is in a two-way tie for 13th place. Christian Fleetwood finished the day in 21st place after shooting an 83 and Rich Edwards stands in 28th place after carding an 87.
Tyler Pittman, Dale Davis and Darren Peoples of Chowan also competed in the tournament as individuals and shot a 79, 85 and 90, respectively.
