Trio of Hawks Garner CIAA Weekly Honors

CHARLOTTE, NC- The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) in conjunction with the Football Coaches Association and Sports Information Directors Association have announced the CIAA Football Players and Coach of the Week.  Chowan University's Randall Dixon earned CIAA Quarterback of the Week honors while Demetrius Newberry was tabbed CIAA Linebacker of the Week.  Nate Wyche was recognized as Defensive Lineman of the Week.

The Hawks opened CIAA play last Saturday with a 41-13 win over Livingstone College. Chowan tallied 401 yards of total offense in the victory and improved to 5-0 in the series against the Blue Bears. 

Dixon, senior from Rock Hill, South Carolina, propelled the Hawks to victory in Chowan's CIAA opener.   He connected with nine different receivers for a staggering 372 yards, completing 21-32 pass attempts.  Dixon threw five touchdown passes in the victory. 

Newberry earns CIAA weekly honors for the second consecutive week after leading the Hawks' defensive efforts.  The Brunswick, Georgia native  led all players in Saturday's contest with nine tackles (seven solo, two assisted) including three tackles for loss (12 yards) and one pass breakup. 

Wyche, hailing from Suffolk, Virginia, tallied seven solo tackles in Saturday's victory along with one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and two sacks (eight yards).  He recorded three tackles for loss (nine yards). 

The Hawks return to action on Saturday as Chowan plays host to Johnson C. Smith.  Kick-off is slated for6pm.  Saturday's game marks the start of a three-game home-stand for the Chowan Blue and White.
