Four Hawks Garner NCCSIA All-State Recognition
GREENSBORO, NC- The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) announced its selections for the 2016 College Division All-State Softball Team on Wednesday evening. Chowan University's Tina White garnered NCCSIA All-State First Team honors while Haley Cooper, Kris Neal, and Kayla Robins garnered Second Team recognition.
White, hailing from Whiteville, North Carolina, represents the Hawks on the All-State First Team after recording a .383 batting average on the season. She tallied a team-high 57 hits on the season including 14 doubles, three triples, five homeruns and 34 RBI while scoring a team-high 41 runs for the Chowan Blue and White. White was also an All-CIAA First Team selection and earned NCCSIA All-State Second Team honors one year ago.
Cooper, a rising sophomore from Perquimans Count, North Carolina, posted a team-best .408 batting average. She knocked in a team-high 39 RBI on the year while notching 10 doubles, one triple, and three homeruns. Cooper ended her freshman campaign as the CIAA Rookie of the Year with All-CIAA First Team and CIAA All-Tournament honors.
Neal, an All-CIAA Second Team and All-Tournament selection hit at a .378 clip as a junior. The Clayton, North Carolina native notched seven doubles, five triples, five homeruns and 33 RBIs last season.
Robins rounds out the list of NCCSIA All-State honors. The CIAA Pitcher of the Year posted a 2.12 earned run average for the Hawks. The Mathews County, Virginia native tossed 188.1 innings for the Hawks and recorded 232 strikeouts on the season. She held opponents to a .216 batting average and was also tabbed to the All-CIAA First Team and All-Tournament Team.
Chowan posted a 29-14 overall record in 2016 and ended the year as CIAA Tournament runner-up. The Hawks captured their sixth CIAA Northern Division title after finishing league play with an undefeated record (14-0) against conference opponents.
Founded in 2002, The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina.
The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.
NCCSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, volleyball, softball, and baseball.
