Trio of Hawks Garner NCCSIA All-State Second Team Honors
GREENSBORO, NC- The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) announced its selections for the 2016 College Division All-State Baseball Team on Wednesday afternoon. Chowan University's Connor Arcobasso, Zach Cooper, and Cody Smith were each tabbed to the NCCSIA All-State Second Team. Twenty-four players representing 11 different North Carolina Universities and Colleges comprised this year's teams.
Arcobasso, a rising senior, hit at a .358 clip during his junior campaign. He recorded 69 hits including 17 doubles, seven triples, and four homeruns while knocking in 39 RBI. The Jefferson City, Missouri native was an All-CIAA First Team honoree and also earned CIAA All-Tournament recognition.
Cooper, a Franklinton, North Carolina native, joins Arcobasso on the NCCSIA All-State Second Team after posting a .402 average at the plate during his junior season. He tallied 19 doubles, five triples, one homerun along with 43 RBI. Cooper was an All-CIAA First Team performer for the Blue and White, and also grabbed CIAA All-Tournament honors, a nod on the NCBWA All-Region Team as well as D2CCA All-Region and NCAA Division II Atlantic Region All-Tournament team recognition.
Smith, a Rocky Mount, North Carolina native, rounds out the NCCSIA All-State Second Team honorees for the Hawks. The All-CIAA and NCBWA All-Region honoree paced Chowan's pitching staff with a 9-3 record on the mound. He posted a 2.83 earned run average this season and struck out 76 batters over the course of 64.1 innings of work. Smith held opponents to a .190 average and made 14 appearances for the Blue and White.
The Chowan baseball team ended the 2016 season with a 26-26 overall record. The Hawks clinched their first CIAA Tournament title in program history this season and made their first-ever NCAA Atlantic Region Tournament appearance with an automatic bid.
Founded in 2002, The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina.
The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.
NCCSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, volleyball, softball, and baseball.
