Gregg Hecimovich Delivers Lecture on Hannah Crafts, the first female African American Novelist
On Monday, March 25th, Chowan University had the privilege of hosting Gregg Hecimovich, a professor of English at Furman University. Hecimovich delivered a captivating lecture on his highly acclaimed biography, “The Life and Times of Hannah Crafts: The True Story of the Bondwoman’s Narrative.” This remarkable work has garnered significant recognition, including being selected as “One of the 10 Best Books of 2023” by The Washington Post, which described it as “part thriller, part mystery, and part biography.”

Hecimovich’s meticulous research and dedication led him to trace the roots of this groundbreaking author to Murfreesboro, North Carolina.
