Biology Graduate Dorian Mitchell Shares Journey from Chowan University to Campbell University Medical School
Alumni Dorian Mitchell recently spoke about his educational journey, from completing his Bachelor of Science in Biology at Chowan University to pursuing a medical degree at Campbell University. Mitchell, who graduated from Chowan in 2020, earned his master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences from Campbell in 2023. Since then, he has been actively engaged in his medical studies at Campbell.
Mitchell initially started his college career at Chowan University with a focus on exercise science. However, after realizing that physical therapy was not his desired path, he switched to biology. While at Chowan, Mitchell participated in numerous mission trips, including a transformative experience in South Africa, where he met his mentor. It was during this trip that he decided to pursue a career in medicine.
As a biology major at Chowan, Mitchell recognized the importance of meeting the course requirements and maintaining a competitive GPA. He took additional courses to strengthen his academic profile to enhance his chances of acceptance into medical school. After completing his master’s degree at Campbell, Mitchell successfully passed the MCAT and was accepted into Campbell’s Medical School, where he is currently continuing his medical training.
Mitchell’s story serves as an inspiration to current Chowan University students who are considering a career in medicine. His valuable advice and experiences shed light on the opportunities and challenges that may arise after graduation. As a Life Skills University, Chowan ensures that our students are open to as many opportunities as possible so they are poised for success upon graduation.
