GEO Group, Inc. Funds Annual Scholarship at Chowan University
In June, The GEO Group, Inc. made another generous donation to student scholarship at Chowan University.
With the addition of this year’s donation, GEO Group has given more than $35,000 to Chowan University to support students in their academic efforts. The Group’s scholarship supports seven Chowan students annually in the majors of business and criminal justice and is awarded to applicants selected by the Dean of the School of Business and the Chair of the Criminal Justice Department with support from departmental faculty.
Since 2000, The GEO Group, Inc. has partnered with Chowan University to provide financial support for students on their journey to higher education. Dr. Kirk Peterson, president of Chowan University, is thankful for the Group’s continued support. “The GEO Group has aided many of our students in their pursuit of higher education. It is my hope that Chowan will continue to partner with the GEO Group in the years to come.”
The local GEO Group facility is commonly known as Rivers Correctional Institution. Warden Brick Tripp and Executive Secretary Deborah Gatling met with Dr. Peterson to present the $7000 scholarship check from the GEO Group. The Institution has been supporting area high schools and colleges with scholarships for more than eight years. It is their goal to assist in empowering students to strive for goals that would otherwise be out of reach.
