Aiken Promoted to Head Athletic Trainer
The Chowan Athletic Department announced the promotion of Michelle Aiken, DAT to Head Athletic Trainer.
Michelle enters her fourth season with the Blue and White after spending her first three years as an Assistant Athletic Trainer. Aiken provides coverage for men's soccer, men's and women's swimming, and softball.
Last year, Aiken received her Doctorate of Athletic Training from Temple University. She also has a masters' degree in Kinesiology from Temple in 2016. Michelle attended Erskine College to obtain her bachelors' degree in Athletic Training.
Prior to joining the staff at Chowan, Aiken worked as a part-time athletic trainer for campus recreation and completed a clinical rotation at the Temple University athletic training room. In that capacity, she evaluated and diagnosed student-athlete injuries and supervised rehabilitation while covering men's and women's club rugby, men's club wrestling, men's club volleyball, and men's ice hockey. Aiken also served as a teaching assistant for anatomy and physiology labs.
As an undergraduate student at Erskine College, Aiken worked directly with the Flying Fleet athletic programs, specifically, with the women's soccer team. During her junior year, Aiken completed an intensive rotation with Presbyterian College and worked primarily with the football team.
In January of 2014, Aiken completed an externship, which was a part of her undergraduate coursework, with Blue Ridge Orthopedics of Anderson. There, she shadowed orthopedic doctors and physical therapists and observed orthopedic out-patient surgeries.
Aiken is a NATABOC certified athletic trainer and is licensed in the state of North Carolina. She is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association.
