Deja King Named All-Conference Student Support
Eight students from eight member institutions have been named to the 2019 Conference Carolinas All-Conference Student Support Team; the Conference office announced on Wednesday (May. 15) afternoon. The All-Conference Student Support Team was created in 2016-17 to recognize one student from each member institution who supports an athletic team and/or athletic department through service. Examples of service include, but are not limited to: team managers, statistical support, video service, and/or game day operations support.
To be eligible for the Conference Carolinas All-Conference Student Support Team a student must meet the following criteria:
- – Junior or senior academic status as determined by the Registrar's Office.
- – Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale on all work completed at the member institution.
- – GPA is to be based on the previous fall semester's grades (e.g. cumulative GPA through Fall 2018).
- – Must have completed at least two full-time semesters at the member institution (currently in their third semester or beyond)
- – A student-athlete who has exhausted their eligibility is eligible to win this award if they are assisting their former team and/or athletic department in such a manner as described above.
The 2019 Conference Carolinas All-Conference Student Support Team members are:
Caleb Barnes (Limestone): Barnes is a senior professional communications major with a 3.16 grade point average. Over the last three years, Caleb has served as a member of Limestone's webcast production team.
Mattie Brown (King): Brown is a junior athletic training major with a 3.53 grade point average. For three years Mattie has served as a student athletic trainer for the Converse acrobatics & tumbling team.
Sara Dooley (Erskine): Dooley is a senior business major with a 3.50 grade point average. During the last three years Sara has served the Erskine athletic department as a member of its game management staff.
Deja King (Chowan): King is a junior sport studies and exercise science major with a 3.40 grade point average. During the last two years Deja has served the Chowan athletic department as a member of its game day and event staff.
Megan Miller (North Greenville): Miller is a senior sport management major with a 3.51 grade point average. Megan has worked in the NGU athletic department as the marketing and fundraising intern and has served a major role in the rollout of the Pepsi Ambassador program.
Holly Richardson (Southern Wesleyan): Richardson is a senior sports management major with a 3.76 grade point average. Holly has been a game day operations crew member for SWU for the last two years, working in every aspect of support for athletic events.
Matthew Synder (Mount Olive): Snyder is a senior recreation and leisure studies/exercise science major with a 3.07 grade point average. Matthew has been an integral part of the UMO men's basketball team serving as the team's manager.
Carie Valentine (Belmont Abbey): Valentine is a junior accounting and motorsports management major with a 3.62 grade point average. For three years, Carie has served as game day and statistical support for game operations and sport information, while also being the work study team leader.
