Softball Earns Seven Individual CIAA Awards
The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) announces its 2019 Softball All-Conference Teams and superlatives as voted by the CIAA Softball Coaches Association and Sports Information Directors Association.
Chowan earned seven selections this season led by Brittany Parson and Miranda Glover with All-CIAA First Team honors. Beth Walker, Haley Cooper, and Hannah Naifeh were selected to the Second Team. Naifeh and Jesse Gentry were named to the CIAA All-Rookie Team.
The team was awarded the Dr. Freddie Vaughns Highest Team Academic Award for posting the highest grade point average in the CIAA.
Brittany Parson, junior third baseman from Reno, NV, earned her second straight All-CIAA First Team selection. Parson picked up First Team honors last season. Parson finished the regular season hitting .379 at the plate with six doubles, four home runs, and led the team with 36 RBI.
Miranda Glover earned her first All-CIAA award with a First Team selection this season. The sophomore from Swansboro, NC, paced the team with seven home runs while hitting .329 with six doubles and 30 RBI.
Beth Walker continued to hit the ball well in her sophomore season after putting up CIAA Rookie of the Year and First Team honors last season. Walker, a Pasadena, MD native, grabbed All-CIAA Second Team honors after leading the Hawks at the plate with a .452 batting average. She posted 47 hits, 18 doubles and 26 walks this season.
Haley Cooper became the first Hawk to earn All-CIAA honors all four years. Cooper, a Perquimans County, NC native, picked up All-CIAA Second Team honors this season. In her first two seasons, Cooper earned All-CIAA First Team honors as a catcher before picking up the First Team nod last season at second base. Cooper was third on the team with a .367 batting average. She led the team with 47 hits while picking up eight doubles, three home runs and 26 RBI.
Hannah Naifeh earned All-CIAA Second Team and All-Rookie team selection as an outfielder. Naifeh hit .273 this season with five doubles and nine RBI.
Jesse Gentry also earned CIAA All-Rookie nod after hitting .333 with 11 doubles, three home runs, and 15 RBI as a designated player.
