Chowan University Hires Vice President for Student Affairs
Chowan University announces the hiring of Dr. Montrose Streeter as Vice President for Student Affairs to replace Randy Harrell, who recently retired from the position.
Originally from Greenville, NC, Streeter is thrilled to be returning to his roots. “I feel privileged to be able to work alongside Dr. Peterson and to advocate ‘faith in your future’ as we enter this new era of the university’s history. It is my hope that we will be able to positively affect change in the lives of our students. This is a great opportunity to be at a Christian institution and to share my experiences as a man of faith who is committed to higher education.”
Streeter comes to Chowan from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York where he served as Associate Vice President of Campus Life and Dean of Students, after acting as Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs for the Colleges. He started his career in higher education at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, TN, and also held positions at Keuka College, North Carolina School of the Arts, and Barton College. He is a former pastor of Sentertown Missionary Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN, and is an associate minister at Sycamore Hill Baptist Church in Greenville, NC.
Dr. Kirk Peterson, President, had this to say about the recent hire, “I believe that Chowan will greatly benefit from Dr. Streeter’s experience in student life, academic affairs, and admissions. Being able to draw on the similarities and differences of how these departments interact with the student body will surely be a great asset to him and to the university.”
Streeter studied in religion as an undergraduate at Wake Forest University and Lees-McRae College. He continued on with graduate work in education at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and Saint John Fisher College, obtaining his Doctor of Education degree in 2011.
“His enthusiasm for our students and what they can accomplish is just incredible,” says Dr. Christopher White, Chancellor. “Dr. Streeter will make a fine addition to our campus.”
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Montrose Streeter to the Chowan community, beginning on April 1.
