Chowan Baseball Downs Mount Olive In Opener
The Chowan Baseball team tallied 14 hits to take down nationally-ranked Mount Olive 13-6 in the opening contest of the Conference Carolinas series on Friday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
Marquise Lanier went 3-4 with four RBI including a two-run home run. Noah Cartwright went 1-1 in his pinch-hitting role with a home run and a walk.
Brock Cross picked up three hits. Nick Rose, Cross, Jack Kane, and Nicholas Lees recorded a double.
Anthony Jefferson went 1-2 at the plate with two walks and two RBI.
Ryan Gallaccio picked up the win on the hill tossing 7.0 innings allowing six runs off seven hits. Vinny Puma pitched the final two innings of work allowing one hit and struck out five.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mount Olive took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Marquise Lanier handed the lead to the Hawks in the bottom of the inning after Brock Cross reached on a two-out single. Lanier hit a two-run home run to centerfield.
The Trojans answered in the top of the second with a four run frame on a three-run home run and a sacrifice fly to lead 5-2.
In the bottom of the inning, Jared Fry started off the attack with a blooper over third base. Harley Davidson drew a walk before Anthony Jefferson singled to left center to score Fry. Trenton Lee brought home Davidson on a sac fly to cut the deficit to 5-4. Jefferson swiped second but would be left stranded.
UMO added a run in the third inning on a solo shot to lead 6-4. The Hawks would rally in the bottom of the inning as Marquise Lanier hit his second home run of the day to even the score at 6-all after Brock Cross singled to right field to lead off the inning.
Starting pitcher, Ryan Gallaccio, would pitch out of a jam in the fourth inning with two runners on to keep the score knotted at 6-all.
Trenton Lee drew a two-out walk and Nick Rose doubled off the top of the fence in right field but was left stranded in scoring position.
The middle innings for both sides featured runners on base but neither side was able to plate a go-ahead run. Marquise Lanier made a diving grab in the seventh to keep the Trojans off the bases.
The Hawks would do damage in the seventh inning as Marquise Lanier led off the inning with a single. Jack Kane doubled to right center to plate Lanier. Jared Fry picked up an RBI single before Noah Cartwright hit a pinch-hit two-run home run to continue the rally, 10-6. Nicholas Lees doubled down the third base line before Anthony Jefferson drew a walk. Both runners would move up a base on a wild pitch but left stranded.
Chowan used the momentum after a perfect inning by Vinny Puma in the eighth inning. Brock Cross doubled to start the inning before Marquise Lanier, Jared Fry, and Noah Cartwright drew walks to load the bases and plate a run. Anthony Jefferson drew a walk to plate another run and chase another Trojan reliever. The Hawks lead 13-6 heading to the ninth inning.
