Theatre@Chowan to present children’s play, The Wind of a Thousand Tales

Mar 28, 2018 by Staff Reports

Theatre@Chowan will present three performances of John Glore’s play, The Wind of a Thousand Tales, on April 13, 14, and 15, 2018.

The Wind of a Thousand Tales conveys the story of a young girl named Kimberly-Kay. Kimberly-Kay doesn’t believe in make-believe. In fact, she prefers encyclopedias to fairy tales. But one night, Kim-Kay is swept from her bed by the Breezes and carried away to the magical land of “Nowhere.” It is there that the Breezes enact three folktales—one from Mexico, one from Japan, and one from middle Europe. When Kim-Kay is finally plopped back into her bed, she has a newly-found respect for stories, different cultures, and the power of make-believe.

The twelve-member cast is comprised of Chowan University students: Jermel Jackson (Senior; Winston Salem, NC), Amyah Jones (Freshman; Roanoke Rapids, NC), Cheston McEachern (Freshman; Gates, NC), Joshua Bryant (Sophomore; Goldsboro, NC), Tytiana Heath-Okunwobi (Freshman; Ahoskie, NC), Breauna Johnson (Freshman; Charlotte, NC), Regi Jones (Senior; Fayetteville, NC), Shatoria Lee (Freshman; Raleigh, NC), Jeremiah Cook (Sophomore; New Carrollton, MD), Lajeffrica Smith (Junior; Fernandina Beach, FL), Tyanna Fuller (Freshman; Lexington, NC), and Kaylah James-Jones (Freshman; Roanoke Rapids, NC).

Steven Harders, Professor of Speech & Drama at Chowan, directs the production.

Performances are Friday, April 13, and Saturday, April 14 at 7 pm, and Sunday, April 15 at 2:30 pm. Performances take place in Turner Auditorium in McDowell Columns Hall on the Chowan University campus. Tickets are available for a $3 donation to benefit Roanoke-Chowan S.A.F.E., serving victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in Hertford, Bertie, Northampton, and Gates Counties.
