Chowan University promotes Donnie Clary to Vice Chancellor
MURFREESBORO, NC – Donnie Clary, who has served with distinction as Chowan’s Vice President for Business and Finance since 2005 will transition to the role of Vice Chancellor for Business Affairs.
In this new role, Clary will work with Danny Davis, Vice President of Business Affairs, and the President of the University in a variety of ways. He will utilize his many years of business and finance experience to conduct special projects as needed. This dynamic will help ensure Chowan University’s financial health into the future.
President White tapped Clary for the Vice President of Business Affairs position shortly after he began his tenure in 2003, and attributes much of Chowan’s growth and success to their team effort. Clary and President White first worked together in 1986. Clary was the first person employed by President White as a college president (at Gardner-Webb University). Dr. White was sure the University would succeed with Clary on the team.
Over the past 15 years, Chowan has seen extensive campus renovation and growth. Dr. White states, “The person most responsible for organizing, operating, and financing all the projects is Donnie Clary.” Dr. White continues, “Clary’s arrival in summer 2005 was the real start of campus renewal. He brought with him significant financial, management and planning skills to the senior staff.”
Clary is a 1975 graduate of the University of South Carolina and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He earned his master’s in Business Administration from Gardner-Webb University in 1997. Clary began his career in college administration at Limestone College as comptroller, followed by business manager. He then served as Vice President for Business at Gardner-Webb prior to coming to Chowan.
Most recently, Clary won the 2016-2017 Chowan University Staff Employee of the Year Award. Clary’s years of unwavering devotion as Vice President for Business and Finance warranted recognition. Clary will continue to support Chowan University in his new capacity as Vice Chancellor for Business Affairs.
