CU Volleyball Grabs Three Major Awards
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), with its Volleyball Coaches Association and Sports Information Association, congratulates the 2017 All-CIAA Volleyball First, Second, and All-Rookie Team members, as well as, the CIAA Offensive, Defensive, Setter, Rookie, and Volleyball Coach of the Year.
Chowan Volleyball grabbed four individual awards as well as three of the five major awards.
Bailey Zavala was named CIAA Defensive Player of the Year after leading the conference with 444 digs with 5.29 digs per set. Zavala also earned her second straight CIAA First Team Libero honors.
Karisa Patterson was named CIAA Setter of the Year posting 734 assists on the season leading the CIAA by over 100 assists. Patterson earned CIAA First Team honors for her first individual award. The senior notched the program's first ever triple-double during the season.
Freshman, Kayla Gates, was named CIAA Rookie of the Year, as well as, CIAA Second Team and CIAA All-Rookie selection. Gates finished her rookie year with 142 kills and 123 digs from her right side position. Gates added 25 total blocks to round out her accomplishments this season.
The 2017 CIAA Volleyball Championship will be played this weekend, November 17th – 19th, all contests will be played on the campus of Virginia State University in the Multipurpose Center. The event is open to the public.
