CU Volleyball Sweeps VUU on Senior Day
MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team ran their CIAA Northern Division record to 8-0 with a sweep of Virginia Union in league action on Sunday afternoon.
Before the match the Hawks celebrated: Sydney Bell, Makayla Castro, Karisa Patterson, Brittany Tschida, and Bailey Zavala for Senior Day.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
Brittany Tschida and Courtney O'Keefe led the charge on the offensive end with nine and eight kills respectively.
Karisa Patterson dished out 30 assists and tallied eight digs.
Bailey Zavala racked up 23 digs in the match moving to 995 career digs. Makayla Castro tallied 10 digs and five kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Set: Chowan 25, Virginia Union 15
The Hawks were able to jump out to an early 7-2 lead thanks to VUU miscues. Courtney O'Keefe put the Hawks on the board first with a kill. Makayla Castro recorded a service ace before Milica Vejnovic finished off the early rally with a kill.
Both teams swapped points until Chowan rattled off five straight points to double up the Panthers, 14-7. Brittany Tschida, Courtney O'Keefe and Makayla Castro tallied a kill in the run forcing a VUU timeout.
VUU continued to hand the Hawks points on miscues before back-to-back kills by Brittany Tschida ending the first set for the Hawks 25-15.
2nd Set: Chowan 25, Virginia Union 15
Chowan was the beneficiary to early miscues by the Panthers to open the set as Courtney O'Keefe and Kayla Gates notched kills to lead 6-3 early.
The Hawks went on a 7-2 run (14-8) to force a VUU timeout. Courtney O'Keefe notched two kills during the run.
Coming out of the timeout, the momentum continued for the Hawks as CU widened the lead to 20-9. Courtney O'Keefe and Milica Vejnovic tallied a kill each along with VUU miscues.
Brittany Tschida recorded the final kill for the Hawks in the set as the VUU miscues continued giving the Hawks a 25-15 second set.
3rd Set: Chowan 25, Virginia Union 18
After trading points to open the set, CU used a 5-0 run behind two Kayla Gates kills to push the Hawks in front 9-2.
VUU would climb back into the set at 14-11, but the miscues pushed the Hawks' lead further away.
Brittany Tschida and Courtney O'Keefe notched a kill in the later stages of the match to give the Hawks a 22-17 advantage.
Makayla Castro ended the set and match with a kill and the final service ace for the sweep.
