Hawks Volleyball Cruises To Win Against ECSU
ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team cruised to a straight set victory on the road against Elizabeth City in CIAA action on Thursday night.

Kayla Gates led the Hawks with 10 kills on the evening. Sydney Bell posted a .727 hitting percentage with eight kills and zero errors. Brittany Tschida tallied seven kills.
Karisa Patterson dished out 32 assists and five service aces.
Chowan recorded 10 kills and two errors in the first set and finished with 17 kills and five errors in the final set.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Set: Chowan 25, ECSU 10
The Hawks jumped out to an early 9-0 lead thanks to Karisa Patterson recording five service aces. ECSU would make a small rally to cut the score to 10-6.
Chowan's run was aided by 10 service aces in the opening set. Sydney Bell and Kayla Gates recorded three kills each to push the Hawks lead to double-figures. Back-to-back service aces by Brittany Tschida gave the Hawks a 22-9 lead.
Kayla Gates tallied the final kill for the Hawks in the set to take the set 25-10.
2nd Set: Chowan 25, ECSU 23
Elizabeth City saw their first lead of the evening in the second set as the Vikings would lead 6-2. Chowan settled in to knot things at 8-8 after back-to-back kills by Cheryl Thomas.
The Hawks would grab the 10-9 lead on a Courtney O'Keefe service ace and never looked back despite a late rally by the Vikings.
The Hawks would see their lead swell to 17-11 after two kills by Makayla Castro. The Vikings rallied back to tie things at 22-22 after a short spree of kills.
Brittany Tschida recorded a kill followed up by a service ace by Alyssa Born to put the Hawks up two sets to none.
3rd Set: Chowan 25, ECSU 14
Like the first set, the Hawks soared out to a sizable lead, 9-3. Sydney Bell recorded four kills for the Hawks for the lead.
Karisa Patterson and Courtney O'Keefe served the Hawks to a 20-8 lead recording kills along the way.
Kayla Gates, Brittany Tschida and Cheryl Thomas ended the set and match for the Hawks with a trio of kills.

The Hawks return to the Helms Center for their second home match of the season as Chowan hosts CIAA foes Bowie State and Lincoln (Pa.) on Sunday, September 24 and Monday, September 25 respectively.
