Chowan University chapter of Phi Beta Lambda competes in State Leadership Conference
MURFREESBORO, NC – The Chowan University North Carolina Phi chapter of Phi Beta Lambda attended and competed in the 63rd Annual NC Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference in Charlotte, NC April 7-8. Seven students attended and placed in 10 different categories, and four students qualified for the National Competition.
Those who qualified for nationals are Tijuan Jackson of South Chesterfield, VA receiving 1st place in Project Management and 6th place in Personal Finance, Kiala Smith of Norfolk, VA receiving 2nd place in Public Speaking and 3rd place in Organizational Behavior and Leadership, Alesha Butler of Baltimore, MD receiving 2nd place in Sales Presentation and Integrated Marketing Campaign, and Erika Sanchez-Vergara of Winston Salem, NC receiving 2nd place in Integrated Marketing Campaign.
In addition to the competitive events, Chowan's chapter received a number of recognitions. These included a 50th Anniversary Recognition of the Chowan University chapter that was chartered on August 12, 1966, first place in the Eastern Region for Largest Chapter Membership with 30 members in the chapter, fifth place for Largest Chapter State Membership. And, second place in the Eastern Region, NCPBL Professional Division-Foundation, Inc. Chapter Affiliation Membership.
Chowan University also received recognition for increasing membership over the previous year and a recognition for the largest percentage increase in chapter membership in the Eastern Region. Advisor Patsy Taylor received a certificate noting her stellar 24 years of service as a local chapter adviser.
Additional placing students include Malek Leach of Petersburg, VA receiving 5th place in Organizational Behavior and Leadership and 7th place in Accounting Principles, Kimlin Sykes of Newport News, VA receiving 4th place in Marketing Concepts and 5th place in Macroeconomics, and Samone Morgan of Richmond, VA receiving 7th place in Management Concepts.
Phi Beta Lambda is dedicated to advancing the educational and career opportunities for students preparing for careers in business or business-related fields. The conference provides an opportunity for members across the state to share ideas and challenges. Events are designed to improve abilities of all chapter members in a variety of areas contributing to the personal and professional development of members. The conference includes general sessions, business meetings, competitive events, special interest sessions, awards banquet and social activities.
