Chowan Softball: Hawks Blast the Long Ball on Senior Day
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO, NC – The Chowan University softball team blasted five homeruns in a doubleheader sweep of Virginia State University on Saturday. The Hawks beat the Lady Trojans 22-0 in game one and 8-0 in game two. Brittany Parson blasted three homeruns in the 22-0 win and posted eight runs batted in to help propel her squad to victory. Tina White and Katrina Simmons also blasted homeruns in the wins.
The Hawks paid tribute to six seniors in between Saturday's doubleheader. Brook Bowen, Danielle Baccus, Audrey Hubbard, Katrina Simmons, Kayla Robins, and Tina White each played in their final home game in the Chowan Blue and White.
Robins picked up her 16th win of the season after holding the Lady Trojans to just one hit. She struck out 10 batters in five innings of work. The Hawks pounded out a season-high 18 hits in the first game. Parsons ended game one 3-4 with eight runs batted in. All three of her hits were homeruns. All nine batters in CU's line up collected hits. Haley Cooper went 3-3 while Simmons and White also ended game one 3-4. Emily Stafford ended game one 2-4 with two runs knocked in.
Shannon Buchanan pitched her sixth win of the season after throwing a one-hitter in the 8-0 game two win.She struck out 11 Virginia State batters through six innings of work.
Simmons lead the Hawks offensively in the second game. She posted the only multiple hit game with two hits and four runs batted in. She blasted her second homerun of the season. Danielle Baccus ended game two 1-2 with an RBI.
