Chowan Sweeps Regional Opponent, Fairmont State University
MURFREESBORO, NC-The Chowan University men's tennis team picked up a 9-0 regional win over Fairmont State University on Sunday afternoon. The Hawks advance to an overall 12-6 record with the victory while, the Fighting Falcons dropped to 11-7 overall after the loss. Fairmont is ranked number two in the Atlantic Region while Chowan is number four.
In doubles competition, Farid Hajizada and Adi Kaliakperov defeated Guilherme Pachane and Tom Liddy 8-2. Mateusz Izycki and Mariano Yeh beat Joao Lucas Alves and Micah Higuess 8-6 in the number two doubles match while, Rafael Goncalves and Louis Proulx teamed up for a win over Micah Hornak and Dillon Early 8-6 at the number three doubles position.
Heading into singles play, Chowan led Fairmont 3-0. Kaliakperov won the first singles match over Alves 6-4, 5-7, 10-8 while, Hajizada beat Hornak 6-1, 6-1 in the number two singles. At the number three singles match Izycki won a tiebreaker 3-6, 6-3, 11-9 over Pachane before Goncalves earned the number four singles play 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 over Early. Yeh picked up the fifth singles match over Liddy 6-2, 4-6, 10-8 for the Hawks. Proulx played the sixth singles position to Alec Mogan and grabbed the 7-5, 6-1 win.
The Hawks are back in action when they travel to Staunton, Virginia for a non-conference match up against University of Charleston. First serve is set for 3:00pm.
