Chowan Baseball: Cooper Throws No Hitter In Shut Out Win Over Saint Augustine’s
Box Score 1 CARY, NC – The Chowan University baseball team picked up a 6-0 shut out win over Saint Augustine's University in game three of their four-game series on Monday afternoon. Zack Cooper pitched a no hitter for his third win of the season. The last game of the series was suspended due to weather in the middle of the 9th inning. The Hawks held a 4-1 lead over the Falcons when the game was suspended. The game will pick up where it was suspended at a later announced date.
Cooper pitched a complete game, striking out nine of the 25 batters he faced over seven innings. He got some support from his offense in the top of the second frame. Also batting in the line up, Cooper reached base on an infield error by the Falcons and scored two batters later when Julian Lopez drove him in on an infield out for a 1-0 lead.
Still batting, Cooper drew a walk in the top of the 4th inning. He stole second, advanced to third on a fly out, and scored on a Harry Markotay single to get a 2-0 cushion.
The Hawks posted four runs in the top of the seventh inning on four hits and an error by the Falcons. Cooper went back to work in the bottom of the seventh, getting two strikeouts and a ground out to secure the no-hit win.
Markotay and Tyler Jones each collected two hits in the game. Marvin Harrell drove in two runs and went 1-4.
A date to continue the suspended game will be announced once agreed upon.
