MURFREESBORO, NC-The Chowan University women's tennis team earned a 9-0 win over Fayetteville State University in their final conference match of the CIAA Round Up on Sunday afternoon. The Hawks advance to an overall 11-7 record and 7-0 record in conference play. With the setback, the Lady Broncos dropped to 1-7 overall on the season, with a 1-7 record in the league.

Chowan swept Fayetteville in doubles and singles play during the match. At the number one doubles match Cynthia Carrier and Angelique Gouin beat Staisha Cain and Selena Cox 8-2 while Roxana Daneshjoo and Anna Makhneva picked up the 8-0 victory in the second doubles play over Vanaysha Graham and Brittany Doss. The Lady Broncos Tajah Clark and Asia Potts fell in the third doubles position 8-0 to Franca Pacelli and Natalia Andrade.

In the number one singles match, Polina Novachuk defeated Cain 6-1, 6-0, while Cox fell to Victoria Smolchenkova in the number two singles 6-0, 6-0. Carrier picked up the number three singles play 6-1, 6-0 over Graham, before Gouin beat Jordan 6-0, 6-0 in the number four singles position. At the fifth singles match, Makhneva won 6-0, 6-0 over Clark for the Hawks. Pacelli grabbed the number six singles 6-0, 6-0 over Doss to secure the 9-0 win for Chowan.

The Hawks return to action on Wednesday March 29th as they travel to Elizabeth City, North Carolina for a conference double header against Elizabeth City State University. Match time is slated for 2:00pm
