Chowan Men’s Lacrosse Earns First Program Win Over Emmanuel

Box Score MURFREESBORO, NC – The Chowan University men's lacrosse team picked up a 22-7 win over Emmanuel College on Saturday afternoon, moving them to 1-7 on the year. The victory marks the program's first-ever win and the program's first win as a member of the Conference Carolinas. Emmanuel dropped to 0-8 after the match. 

CU's Anthony Alfonso, Jr. led the Hawks offensively with eight goals and three assists. Nick Lavoy chipped in five goals and five assists for the Hawks while Noah Holloway and Austin Lee added three scores and two scores respectively.

For the Crusaders, Tyler Machado, Austin Brundage, and Cam Free each scored two goals in the setback while, Tanner Smith added one goal in the match. Machado recorded three assists for Emmanuel.

The Hawks took the board first at the 12:17 mark of the first period on a score by Holloway. Emmanuel's Free answered Holloway's goal assisted by Machado less than a minute later. Chowan went to score three more goals in the first period before Lavoy got the Blue and White on the board again at the horn. The Hawks went on to outscore the Crusaders 7-1 in the second period for a 12-3 halftime lead.

Chowan went on to outscore the Lions 10-4 in the second half for the win. Chowan out shot the Lions 52-38 over sixty minutes of play. The Hawks completed 27 of 29 clears and picked up 31 ground balls. 

John Crandall earned the win in goal for the Hawks recording 10 saves while Luke Harris is recorded with the loss tallying 13 saves in the match. 

Chowan will play again on Wednesday, March 29th in a Conference Carolinas match up against the University of Mount Olive. Match time if slated for 4:00pm in Mount Olive, North Carolina.
