HILTON HEAD, SC-The Chowan University women's tennis team concluded the Spring Tennisfest with a 6-3 win over Ashland University on Thursday afternoon. The Hawks improved to 4-6 on the year while the Eagles fell to 0-15 with the setback.

In doubles play, Ashland grabbed the number one doubles match 8-4 win with Meghann Fitzpatrick and Brianna Brdicka over Polina Novachuk and Cynthia Carrier. Chowan won the number two doubles 8-6, with Victoria Smolchenkova and Anna Makhneva over Elizabeth Kidd and Natalie Keron. The third doubles match was earned by the Eagles with an 8-6 win by Allison Brooks and Kaitlin Snider over Angelique Gouin and Natalia Andrade.

Heading into singles play, the Hawks won the number one singles match, when Novachuk beat Fitzpatrick 6-4, 4-6, 10-2. Ashland earned the number two singles match by retirement from Smolchenkova in the tiebreaker set, 6-1, 4-5. Carrier beat Keron 6-0, 6-2 in the number three singles play, while Gouin picked up the number four singles pos8ition 6-2, 6-1 over Brooks. The number five singles was won 6-3, 6-0 by Makhneva for Chowan over Kidd, while Snider fell to Franca Pacelli 6-3, 6-2 in the number six singles match.

The Hawks will travel to Salisbury, North Carolina on March 11th for a conference match up against Johnson C. Smith University. Match set for 9:00am.
