CU Men’s Tennis Clipped Tiffin University
MURFREESBORO, NC-The Chowan University men's tennis team edged Tiffin University 6-3 on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks improve to 2-3 on the season while the Dragons fell to 6-2 with the setback.
Chowan clinched all three doubles matches over Tiffin to earn an early 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
In singles play, Adi Kaliakperov defeated Luis Ludena 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 in the number one singles match. The Dragons recovered in the number two position as Mateusz Izycki fell to Isaac Andrew, while Farid Hajizada picked up the number three singles for Chowan 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 over Elio Lezama. Tiffin's Sorin Novatchi won the number four singles match over Mariano Yeh 6-2, 5-7, 6-4, while Rafael Goncalves defeated Toby Cutting 6-1, 6-4 in the fifth singles play. The Dragons secured the number six singles position, Justin Kopronica over Louis Proulx 6-4, 6-4.
The Hawks are back in action as they travel to Newport News, Virginia to match up against Christopher Newport University. Match time is slated for 10:00am.
