Chowan Women’s Lacrosse Picks Up First Season Win Over Barton
WILSON, NC – The Chowan University women's lacrosse team picked up at 14-7 win over Barton College on Wednesday evening, moving them to 1-1 on the year. The victory marks the program's first Conference Carolinas win, and the school's first win as a member of the Conference Carolinas. CU's Alexandria Hammonds led the way offensively with with five goals. Barton moves to 0-4 after Wednesday's match.
Chowan out shot the Bulldogs 31 to 17 in the match. Shaena Ravenell picked up the win in the goal after collecting seven saves in sixty minutes of play.
Barton struck first in the match just a minute into the match Kelly Dolan found the back of the net at the 29:39 mark. After a quick foul by Barton, CU's Heather Orell quickly answered to knot the game at 1-1 with a goal at the 29:13 mark of the first period.
Chowan took a 7-4 lead into the half and added seven more goals in the second period to take the 14-7 win. Hammonds scored a game-high five goals. Orell found the back of the net four times while teammate Jennifer Caird scored three times. Misten White and Jasmine Latney each added a goal.
Chowan improved to 1-1 on the year and 1-1 in Conference Carolinas play. They will play again on Saturday in a non-conference match up against Alderson Broaddus University. Match time if slated for 12:00pm in Murfreesboro. Fans will be able to view the game live via live stream video and follow live stats for Saturday's match.
