Chowan Men’s Basketball: Hawks Hit Century Mark in Big Win over Lincoln
LINCOLN, PA-The Chowan University men's basketball team downed Lincoln University 100-78 on Wednesday evening. The Hawks improve to 17-9 overall and continue CIAA play with a 9-6 league record. The Lions slide to 7-18 overall and 5-10 in the league.
Lincoln got on the board first in the game with a three pointer by Sean James. A bucket by Carlos Arroyo knotted the score 6-6 at the 18:15 minute mark. Both teams exchanged baskets until two good foul shots by Kevin Kuteyi opened the lead for the Hawks at 32-17. Chowan kept the momentum going through the remainder of the first half, taking a 51-39 lead into the halftime break.
The Hawks had three players' net double-figures in the win, paced by Kuteyi. Kuteyi poured in a game-high 31 points, shooting 11-16 from the floor and 7-10 from beyond the arc. Marco Haskins scored 21 points, dished out two assists ,and grabbed two rebounds in the win. Arroyo put up 20 points, grabbed nine boards, and handed out eight assists for the Hawks.
Chowan shot 61% from the floor and 86% from the foul line in route to the 22 point win. This is the first time this season that Chowan has hit the 100 point mark.
Leading the Lions was Sean James who scored 20 points to go with five rebounds. Joshua Davis chipped in 17 points and grabbed six rebounds while Carlton Allen tallied 13 points in the game.
Chowan returns to their home court to host Virginia Union University on Saturday, February 18th. Game time is slated for 4:00pm at the Helms Center. The Hawks will honor five seniors prior to the tip off.
