Chowan Women’s Swimming has Strong First Day
CHARLOTTE, NC – The Chowan University women's swimming team sits in 9th place out of 12 teams after day one of competition at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Tournament in Charlotte. The Hawks earned 87 points to earn a 9th place first day finish. Queens University of Charlotte tallied 232 team points to take the top spot after day one. Wingate University tallied 209 points for second place.
The Hawks finished 7th out of 13 teams competing in the first event of the day, the 200 meter medley relay. The Hawks touched the wall with a time of 1:50.16 behind the efforts of relay team members Julia Chmielewska, Kjahna O, Kenya McCray, and SheAyre Bowles.
O picked up seven team points in the 1000 meter freestyle swim. She reached the final wall at 11:10.57, good enough for an 18th place individual finish.
The Hawks placed 10th in the 800 meter freestyle relay race with a time of 8:39.05. The relay team, led by Ashley Hernandez, Keitra Lloyd, and Megan Reid, earned 34 points for the team.
The Hawks will get back to action tomorrowwith prelims at 10:00am. The finals will begin at 6:00pm.
