CU Women’s Swimming Strokes by Competition at Greensboro College Invitational
GREENSBORO, NC – The Chowan University women's swimming team wrapped up regular season swim competition by sweeping their opponents at the Greensboro College Invitational on Friday night. Chowan won eight of the ten events they competed in at the invitational that featured Greensboro College, Guilford College, and Hollins University.
Chowan beat Hollins with a team score of 100-66. They beat Guilford 106-37 and Greensboro 107-69.
The Hawks opened the meet with a big win over Hollins in the 200 meter medley relay. The Hawks foursome swam to a 2:01.42 finish while Hollins touched the wall at 2:08.01.
Kjahna O swam past her competition in the 200 meter freestyle after she finished more than nine seconds faster than any other swimmer with a time of 2.07.28.
Chowan got a 1-2 finish in the #7 event of the meet, the 50 meter freestyle. SheAyre Bowles finished in first place in the field with a time of 26.43 and teammate Megan Reid touched the wall at 27.18 for second place. Megan Hernandez finished up in 5th place for the Hawks with a 28.45 finish.
Sarah Hull took 4th place in the 100 meter medley relay with a time of 1:16.87. The Hawks swept the top three spots in the 100 meter butterfly. Reid finished in 1st place with a time of 104.64. Kietra Lloyd touched the wall at 1:05.62 for second place and Bowles finished in third place with a time of 1:06.53.
Kenya McCray finished the 100 meter freestyle more than five seconds better than the field with a time of 56.32 for first place. In the 100 meter backstroke CU's Reid finished first with a time of 105.98.
O dusted the field in the 500 meter freestyle with a time of 5:45.54 for first place. Teammate Lloyd finished in second place with a time of 5:51.06.
Hull finished the 100 meter breaststroke in 3rd place with a time of 1:24.88. Wrapping up the meet, McCray, Bowles, O, and Hernandez teamed up to win the 200 meter freestyle relay. The won the race with a time of 1:44.63, 20 seconds better than Greensboro College.
The Hawks will spend the next two weeks preparing for the Blue Grass Mountain Conference Tournament. The tournament is scheduled to take place in Charlotte, North Carolina, February 8th through February 11th.
Chowan took home four first place finishes in their first-ever season of competition.
